ORIGINS OF INDIAN MUSIC: Indian classical music refers to the art of music of the Indian subcontinent. The origins of Indian classical music can be found in the Vedas, which are the oldest scriptures in Hindu tradition. The Samaveda , one of the four Vedas, describes music at length. It contains hymns which are the earliest records of Indian music. Indian classical music is both elaborate and expressive. (Wikipedia, 2013)
Like Western classical music , it has seven basic notes, in ascending tonal order, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa , similar to the western music's Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Si Do.

INDIAN ROCK: There has been a significant shift of appreciation and appeal from the monotonous notes of classical music to the contemporary Pop music and especially the fusion music of Indian film industry. On the other hand a new music revolution arose in the '90s, which called itself Indian Rock. Indus Creed was the first leading Indian Rock band. The idea was no doubt westernized , with long hair singers sweating aloud on the microphones.But the youth identified with this unrestrained expression of music . Indus Creed emphatically proclaimed, "We're on top of the rock!" to the thousands of young Indians folks, who looked up to them as their own rock heroes. Indian Rock had come to stage!
Some other popular Indian rock bands are Parikrama, Euphoria and Pentagram, a Mumbai rock band which became the first of its kind to play at the South by Southwest festival in Austin , Texas in 2007.
